Yoga and Posture

How much time do you spend looking down at your phone or slouched at your desk? Probably more than what’s healthy.

The poor posture that can come from these activities has the potential to lead to pain in your neck and back, headaches, and other health problems.

Fortunately, yoga is a wonderful way to strengthen the muscles that support your spine and neck, among other helpful benefits to help you fight off poor posture!

Other poses such as cat-cow and downward-facing dog can help release tension in the spine, and improve alignment.

These poses are especially wonderful if your job requires you to sit or stand for long periods of time, reducing the tension and stress that causes your muscles to tighten and shoulders to hunch forward.

Improved balance may not sound like a tool in improving posture, but since many yoga poses require balance, the body is trained to maintain a stable, upright position- keeping your back straighter for longer.

Practicing poses like tree, eagle, and warrior III can help develop strength in stability in the core, legs, and hips!

Yoga can be the difference maker between good and bad posture.
